Pirates
Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship," a new exhibit organized by National Geographic and Arts and Exhibitions International (AEI) LLC, tells the compelling story of the Whydah, a real pirate ship that began as a slave ship, and the stories of the diverse people whose lives converged on the vessel. This exhibition marks the only time genuine artifacts excavated from the first fully-authenticated pirate ship ever discovered in American waters, have been on display on a national scale. The development of initial concept sketches into a working traveling exhibition was achieved in five-months! Lexington design/built this 15,000 sf. traveling exhibition which features a 1,200 sf replica of the Whydah which visitors enter and travel through the hull, captain’s quarters, main deck, and below deck. All these areas are propped with fabricated replicas of items found with the recovered vessel, and through historic illustrations and research

Once Upon a Time
Lexington technically designed and built the immersive interiors, numerous state-of-the-art hands-on interactive exhibits, reading rails and all graphics for Toyota’s Highway to the Future: Mobile Hybrid Experience in a highly compressed two-month schedule. During this 18-month campaign the two identical 50-ft x 25-ft trailers travel separately to more than 150 events including state fairs, auto shows, museums, environmental gatherings and other venues. Visitors to the trailers will be able to interact with digital exhibits on how hybrid vehicles operate, the technology's benefit to the environment and how alternative fuels such as ethanol can help reduce harmful emissions.

Brain - The World Inside your Head: this interactive exhibit employs innovative special effects, virtual reality and hands-on learning activities within a fun-filled environment. With the use of real brains and interactive technology as tools, this exhibit allows the guest to delve into the inner workings of the brain, including its processes, and mysteries. This exhibit opened to the public at the Smithsonian Institute in July 2001 and will travel for over five years to 15 different science centers throughout the United States.

"Brain continues to pack 'em in. And people are genuinely interested in the subject matter. So much so that Smithsonian can hardly keep the brochure shelves stocked. No one anticipated that level of interest."

"This is an exciting educational experience that parents will want to share with their children. From the moment visitors walk into the exhibit, right through the electrical workings of a re-created functioning brain, they will be amazed by this groundbreaking presentation of important scientific information."

J. Dennis O'Connor
Smithsonian's Under Secretary for Science

This interactive exhibit answers frequently asked questions about the human genome and the research surrounding it. The interactive kiosks, hands-on activities, and interesting environments encourage people of all ages to learn more about this fascinating topic. This exhibit opened at the Smithsonian Institute in June 2003. It will travel for over 5 years to Science Centers throughout the United States.

Lexington did the technical design and fabrication for all of Genome's numerous interactive exhibits. We also created the scenic facades, display cases, kiosks, and graphics as well as the unique traveling carts that transported the exhibition on its journey around the United States.

"The cart and transport system you developed for the Giant Double Helix is nothing less than ingenious... Thanks for a job well done!"

Microbes - Invisible Invaders and Amazing Allies: This interactive hands-on exhibit is organized into creative, fun-filled areas that examine what microbes are (bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa-more commonly known as germs). It illustrates what they look like, the history of disease, and how research is helping to find cures and save lives. This exhibit travels for over 5 years to 15 different science centers throughout the United States.

"The purpose of the exhibit - to tell the history of viruses and how they affected history, and show how viruses, germs, and bacteria act in today's world - could have been boring and even uncomfortable [but] with Lexington's creative approach, both 'good' and 'bad' bacteria are presented through entertaining and educational 3-D shows and sculpture, games, virtual reality, and interactive exhibits."

This traveling exhibit was based on a children's book. Eight robots interpreted the inner workings of eight different animals. These robots were placed within themed environments in association with twelve hands-on activities. Two of the same exhibitions were created to travel for over five years to over thirty different science and natural history centers throughout the United States and Canada.

"Welcome to a wild exhibit where mechanical marvels make science
a picnic."

"Robot Zoo is cool! Our visitors are enjoying everything about it - the title, creatures, the natural history facts, and the many interactives. It is also pulling in parents and younger kids which broadens our audience and is a definite plus."

This interactive traveling exhibition introduces visitors to the people throughout history who have studied space to better understand our relation to it. Through interactive exhibits and immersive scenic elements, this traveling show tells the story of what we know about our universe, and what questions still remain unanswered.

This exhibit opened in November 2003 at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, WA. It will travel for four years to major Science Centers throughout the United States.

Lexington technically designed and fabricated the scenic facades, display cases, kiosks, projection walls, Mars Lander, scenic three-dimensional trees, and graphics. We also designed and built all the unique traveling carts that transported the exhibition on its journey around the United States.

This traveling exhibition was on a three-year tour of Europe and featured movie props, two multimedia theaters, interactives of CGI film techniques, and re-created sets of fully-detailed interiors of the famous ship prior to its demise. It also showed the underwater environment surrounding the shipwreck upon discovery. Lexington fabricated all the scenic facades, artifact cases, props, and graphics for this 43,000 sq. ft. exhibition. Our scope included several interactives and show action equipment elements in addition to the static sets.
